Compare the same stay

Start with the same dates, number of guests and an equivalent room category. Then compare the total amount payable, included meals and cancellation conditions. Two prices are only comparable when they cover the same things.

Booking direct

Speaking with the hotel lets you ask about beds, arrival, views or luggage. Request a full quote and written confirmation. Communication may be simpler, although booking direct does not always guarantee the lowest rate.

Booking platforms

They bring options, reviews and conditions together in one place. Check who takes payment, in which currency and which channel handles changes or refunds. Some requests will need to go through the channel where you booked.

Before confirming

Keep your booking number and any accepted requests. If you plan to switch booking channels, confirm the new availability first: cancelling too soon could leave you without your chosen room.

Plan
your stay, too.

Be clear about your dates

How far ahead to book depends on your trip: a specific room, several rooms together or a local celebration can limit your options. Before booking accommodation, check the services that set your schedule, such as flights, trains or admission tickets. If your plans may still change, compare deadlines and amendment fees; a flexible rate may help leave room for adjustments.

Look at the category, not just the photograph

For a stay as a couple, ask about the bed type, space for two suitcases and the bathroom. A view in the general photographs may be from a shared terrace rather than your chosen room. If sleeping away from the street or common areas matters to you, request that preference and wait for confirmation, subject to availability.

Choose a hotel that fits your route

Review where each excursion begins and ends. Changing accommodation means moving luggage, checking out and waiting for your next check-in. Compare all of that time before deciding. Check tour pickup points too: not every tour comes to the hotel door. For separate stays, arrange what happens to your luggage between bookings.

Think about early mornings

An included breakfast is useful when it fits your departure time. Ask which breakfast option the rate offers, when it starts and whether a takeaway alternative is available for an early tour. Confirm any dietary needs and whether they can be accommodated in advance. A breakfast’s name alone does not explain the variety or food you will receive.

Arrange your departure and return

If you will spend a night away to visit Machu Picchu, ask about luggage storage conditions: the number of bags, duration, cost and collection hours. Have the two stays linked and check how to let the hotel know if you return late. For an early transfer, confirm the meeting point, passengers, luggage and price; do not assume an unconfirmed service is included.
